TOP 6 of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius

In the heart of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is known for its crystal clear waters, its fine white sand and its paradisiacal beaches which make the landscape a real postcard. Although this destination is not lacking in activities, many travelers go there mainly to laze in the shade of coconut trees or casuarina trees and enjoy the many beaches. For 10 days, we traveled the island from North to South, to discover the most beautiful places in Mauritius. In this article, we share with you our selection of the 6 most beautiful beaches in Mauritius. Prepare to be amazed by the beauty and variety of these places!

To easily prepare your discovery of the beaches of Mauritius, here is the summary:

The ideal solution for booking your flights and rental cars

We always go through Kayak to book our flights and our rental car: a simple, practical and very affordable solution. With their search filters, we easily find what we are looking for according to our criteria and our budget. If you are looking for a quick and efficient solution to book your flights or a rental car, we advise you to go through Kayak.com.

Pereybere beach

Located in the north of the island, between Grand Baie and Cap Malheureux, Pereybère beach is one of the most popular beaches for Mauritians. The turquoise water visible from the road will not leave you indifferent. By taking the small path that leads to the Pointe d'Azur, you can see Coin de Mire Island.

Trou aux Biches beach

A great place to stroll since it stretches over 3km, Trou aux Biches beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius. Protected by the coral reef, the water is calm and it is pleasant to swim in it, although you have to slalom between the excursion boats at anchor. We went there on a Sunday and were able to enjoy a festive atmosphere since it is a meeting place for Mauritians. In the evening, we witnessed a magnificent sunset.

Le Morne Beach

Located in the southwest of the island, it owes its name to the mountain that rises just behind. Although many hotels seem to monopolize the beach of the Le Morne peninsula, nothing prevents you from walking along the sea and settling where you want. Usually, the beaches of Mauritius are lined with Filaos but here you will find palm trees instead. Near Le Morne beach, you can book a seaplane flight to fly over the underwater waterfall or book a day cruise to discover Benitiers Island and Crystal Rock. For the more athletic, you can opt for the ascent of Morne Barbant at sunrise.

Riambel Beach

It is by taking the coastal road in the south of Mauritius that we stop on the beach of Riambel. At the foot of a turquoise blue lagoon and surrounded by filao trees, this wild beach is absolutely beautiful, like its neighbors Pomponette, Saint Félix or even Bel Ombre. However, due to strong currents, swimming is not really recommended anywhere along this coast. Opt instead to go kitesurfing, or book a quad excursion to discover the Bel Ombre nature reserve.

Riambel Beach

Blue Bay Beach

In the south-east of the island, we loved swimming at Blue Bay beach and exploring Pointe d'Esny. Located near the airport, we admire the planes that pass very close to the beach, it is for us a real attraction. Also, part of the lagoon has been transformed into a marine park, which makes snorkeling very pleasant. Popular, it is a picnic spot for many Mauritians and this is what contributes to our lovely memories.

To take advantage of the good spots, you can book a day cruise which will allow you to discover the marine park but also to sail to to Ile aux Cerfs via Ile aux Aigrettes.

Gran Zil

This island belongs to Zilwa Attitude. A private shuttle does the round trips only for hotel guests and I couldn't make a top of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius without showing it. With an unobstructed view of Coin de Mire Island, its turquoise water, numerous hammocks... Gran Zil is a real little paradise.

When is the best time to visit these beaches?

Mauritius enjoys a year-round tropical climate with two distinct seasons: the dry season (May to November) and the rainy season (December to April). The best time to visit these beaches is during the dry season as temperatures are mild and rainfall is less frequent. However, even during the rainy season, you can still enjoy the beauty of these beaches as the showers are usually short and give way to the sun.

What activities are offered on these beaches?

Each of these beaches offers a variety of activities. You can practice snorkeling or diving to discover the seabed. Water sports such as jet-skiing, kayaking, paddleboarding, kite-surfing and parasailing are also offered at some beaches.

How to move between these different beaches?

Mauritius is a small island that is easily explored by car or taxi. Taxis are available at all times and fares are reasonable. Buses are also an economical option for getting from one beach to another, but they can be crowded and unreliable in terms of schedules. If you prefer to explore the island at your own pace, we believe car rental is the best option.

Where to eat near these beaches?

Each of these beaches offers a variety of dining options to suit all tastes and budgets. From small street-food stalls to high-end restaurants, there is something for everyone. The beaches are lined with restaurants offering freshly caught seafood, traditional Mauritian dishes, pizzas, burgers and ice cream. Luxury hotel restaurants also offer upscale dining options for those looking for a fine dining experience. Do not hesitate to look on Tripadvisor for online reviews to find the best options to eat near each beach.
